Six weeks of live 1:1 coaching that teaches home-based makers to diagnose their own soldering problems — in real time, at their own bench, with their own torch.

By the end of six weeks,
you won’t need me.

You’ll know how to figure it out yourself.

1:1 Online Soldering Coaching · Worldwide

The discovery call is free. No obligation. We talk for 20–30 minutes and I’ll tell you honestly if this is right for you

SOUND FAMILIAR

You’ve been soldering for a while. It still feels like guesswork.

You’ve followed the tutorials. You’ve bought the right equipment. You’ve watched the same video three times. And still — sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, and you can’t reliably tell the difference before it’s too late.

  • Your solder balls up on top of the join instead of flowing in

  • Your flux goes black before the solder has moved

  • One session works perfectly, the next is a disaster — same setup, different result

  • You know something is wrong but you don’t know what to look for

  • You’ve been told to “just practise more” but more practice just means more of the same results

The problem isn’t your torch. It isn’t your solder. It’s that nobody has ever taught you how to read what’s happening at the join.

“I have realised that preparation is all important. I had not understood that. It has stopped being a matter of good luck now.”

Annette H. — student

WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS

You stop guessing.
You start diagnosing.

Over six weeks we work together live — your bench, your torch, your pieces. I watch what you’re doing and teach you to read what you’re seeing. Not a checklist. Not another tutorial. A diagnostic framework that makes sense of every variable in real time.

By the end you don’t need me. When something goes wrong at the bench, you know where to look, what to ask, and what to change. That’s the shift that every one of my students has described.

“Linda spotted in ten minutes what I’d been battling for two years. My joins are cleaner than they’ve ever been.”

THE PROGRAMME

Six weeks. One framework.
Your bench. Your problems.

Over six weeks we work together live — your bench, your torch, your pieces. I watch what you’re doing and teach you to read what you’re seeing. Not a checklist. Not another tutorial. A diagnostic framework that makes sense of every variable in real time.

01

The Diagnostic Mindset

Why you keep struggling even when you follow the instructions exactly. How three questions change everything you do at the bench — from this session forward.

02

Prep Diagnostics

Most soldering problems are already present before heat is applied. This week you learn to see them — in your metal, your join, your setup — before you touch the torch.

03

Materials Diagnostics

What your flux and solder are telling you in real time. How to read those signals so you know exactly what to adjust and when — not after the piece is ruined.

04

Heat Principles

How to read your flame and your metal colour. How to direct heat so the solder flows where you want it — not where it decides to go.

05

Putting It Together

A full diagnostic session on a real piece — up to three solder joins. You bring the work, we read it together. Every variable, live, in real time.

06

Independence

You lead. You diagnose. I’m there to confirm or redirect. This is the session where you — and I — see that you can do this on your own. That’s the point of everything.

WHAT STUDENTS SAY
Real makers. Real results.Real benches.

“What I thought ‘heating the pieces evenly’ meant was completely different to what it actually requires. That one shift changed everything about how I solder.”

HAYLEY W

“I have realised that preparation is all important. I had not understood that. It has stopped being a matter of good luck now.”

ANNETTE H

“Now I have a foundation of jewellery making skills that I thought were out of reach, and the independence to problem-solve and finish my pieces without getting stuck.”

STUDENT STORIES
What six weeks actually looks like.
These are two of the makers I’ve worked with. Different starting points, different pieces, the same outcome — they can both figure it out themselves now.
HAYLEY'S STORY
From melted bezels to a ring she’s proud to wear
Hayley had been making jewellery for a while but soldering felt like a lottery. She’d end up frustrated — melted bezels, a bin of scrap silver, and no idea why some sessions worked and others were a disaster with the same setup.

The problem wasn’t her technique. It was that she couldn’t read what was happening at the join. She was reacting to results instead of reading signals.

Six weeks later she made this — a sterling silver ring with a bezel-set stone and granulation detail. Multiple solder joins. Something she’d genuinely thought was beyond her.

“Linda gave me the confidence to try different methods and not be scared to make mistakes.”

LIZ'S STORY
From guided hands in a studio to working independently at home
Liz came to a one-day workshop in my studio and got her first real taste of soldering — with me guiding her through every step. She loved it. But she knew that at home, on her own, it would be a completely different story.

A few months later she signed up for Soldering Unlocked. She wanted to be able to do what she’d done in the studio, but independently, at her own bench, with her own modest setup.

By the end of six weeks she was doing exactly that — and she made these two sterling silver heart rings with gemstone settings. Pieces that required precise prep, multiple joins, and the ability to read what was happening in real time.

“Now I have a foundation of jewellery making skills that I thought were out of reach, and the independence to problem-solve and finish my pieces without getting stuck.”

HONEST CLARITY

Is this the right fit?
Be honest with yourself.

I only work with a small number of clients at a time. The discovery call exists so we can both be sure before you commit to anything.

THIS IS FOR YOU IF

You’ve been soldering for a while and still can’t get consistent results

You use a handheld torch at home

You want to understand what’s going wrong — not just try something different and hope

You’re ready to put in bench time between sessions

You want to be able to figure it out yourself, permanently

You’re based anywhere — UK, US, Canada, Australia, or beyond

THIS IS NOT FOR YOU IF

You’ve never attempted soldering before

You’re looking for another checklist to follow

You expect results from watching without bench time

You want someone to do it for you rather than teach you to see

YOUR COACH
Hi, I'm Linda

I’m a silversmith and soldering coach with 15 years at the bench and 10 years of teaching home-based makers. Before this I spent years in corporate project management — and it’s that background that shaped how I teach. Systematic. Diagnostic. No guessing.

I built the Diagnostic Framework because I kept seeing the same thing: students who weren’t struggling with soldering — they were struggling with not knowing how to read what was going wrong. Once you learn to diagnose, everything changes.

I work with makers using handheld torches — in the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, and anywhere else. Online coaching means geography is never a barrier.

QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked

Do we work on my actual pieces or practice examples?

Your actual pieces. Every session is diagnostic — I watch what you’re doing with your real work and your real setup. That’s what makes it effective.

What if I’m not sure what piece to bring?

That’s fine — we work it out together. If you don’t have something underway, I’ll suggest a simple starting piece that gives us everything we need to work through the diagnostic framework. Nothing complicated is needed, especially early on.

What equipment do I need for the Zoom sessions?

A stable internet connection and your regular soldering setup. For the sessions to work properly you’ll need two cameras — your laptop or tablet for face-to-face conversation, and a phone on a simple stand angled down at your soldering station so I can see your work in real time. Most people already have everything they need. I’ll send you a straightforward setup guide before your first session so you know exactly how to position everything — it’s simpler than it sounds.

Do you work with people outside the UK?

Yes. Everything is online via Zoom, so location doesn’t matter. I work with makers in the UK, US, Canada, Australia, and beyond. We’ll find a time that works across time zones.

What if I'm a complete beginner

This programme is designed for makers who have attempted soldering and hit a wall — not complete beginners who have never tried. If that’s you, the free discovery call will help us work out the right starting point.

How quickly will I see results?

Most students have a significant shift in understanding within the first two sessions. Consistent results come with practice between sessions — but the guesswork stops much sooner than that.

What if I fall behind or miss a session?

This is a personalised programme, not a rigid course. Life happens. We adjust. The goal is your progress, not sticking to a fixed schedule at all costs.

Is the discovery call really free with no obligation?

Yes. Genuinely. If after talking we both feel this isn’t the right fit, no problem at all. I’d rather spend 20 minutes finding that out than have either of us commit to something that isn’t right.

NOT READY TO BOOK A CALL YET?

Start with the free diagnostic guide.

Three pages you can keep at your bench. No charge, no obligation — and it’ll show you exactly the kind of thinking this programme is built on.
